Is the face check required?
No. It is optional. Nymix offers it during sign-up, but you can skip it. If you skip it, cancel it, or it doesn't succeed, you still get the same access to the app as verified members. Verified members get a badge on their profile.
A verified badge means a live person matching the profile photo completed the check. It is not proof of legal identity, name, or age.
What we collect
From everyone: a clear face photo added during sign-up. AWS checks that it shows a face. It is stored privately and used for matching.
Only if you choose to do the live face check:
- A short live selfie recorded in the app, used to confirm a real, live person is present.
- A facial template (a face vector / identifier) and a match score produced by comparing the selfie with your profile photo.
This is sensitive personal data. We only process it with your explicit consent.
How AWS Rekognition is used
- We use Amazon Web Services (AWS) Rekognition and Face Liveness to run the check and compare your selfie with your profile photo.
- The facial template is also used to detect duplicate accounts and people trying to return after a ban.
- AWS processes these images under its own service terms.
- Your facial template and scores are stored server-side only and are never shown to other members.
How long we keep it
- Private face photo (everyone): kept until you delete your account or withdraw consent.
- Selfie / liveness images: deleted about 90 days after they are captured. If a check is still waiting on a manual review, its image is kept until that review is done.
- Facial template: kept while your account exists, so duplicate and ban-evasion checks keep working. It is deleted when you delete your account or withdraw consent (below).
- Banned accounts: the facial template is deleted 365 days after a permanent ban becomes final (or immediately if the ban is overturned). This deletes the template only; the private face photo is kept until the account is deleted.
How to delete it
- Withdraw consent in the app: Settings → Privacy → Biometric Data & Verification → Withdraw Biometric Consent. This deletes your stored verification selfie data, queues your facial template for deletion from AWS, and removes your verified badge.
- Delete your account: see Delete Account. After the 30-day recovery window, your data is permanently deleted, including your facial template.
- Template deletion from AWS is retried automatically; if it keeps failing, our team finishes it manually.
